The Power of Our Tongue

by Pastor Billy Chidester
Romans 1:16 says, “I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes, first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.” I love that verse! O how great the power of the gospel! Thank you Lord for our salvation! We often times forget, though, that the gospel doesn’t just save us from future punishment for sin, but in it we also are set free from the present power of sin. (I would hope for an Amen at this point.)
One of the ways that the gospel effects us today if we are surrendering to the power of the gospel is that our words change. Jesus said in Luke 6:45, “A good person produces good out of the good stored up in his heart. An evil person produces evil out of the evil stored up in his heart, for his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.” The gospel of Jesus Christ–when it changes a person–changes all of him or her. As a follower of Jesus may this be a reminder and an exhortation.
